Nepal's Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has forecast that monsoon rainfall will gradually decrease across the country starting Wednesday, although rain is expected to continue in many areas through Tuesday.

According to the department, the country remains under the influence of the monsoon system, while the monsoon trough is currently positioned north of its average location, creating favorable conditions for widespread rainfall.

Senior meteorologist Mina Kumar Aryal said rainfall is likely across various parts of the country today and Tuesday, but weather conditions are expected to improve gradually from Wednesday.

During the daytime, moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is forecast in many hilly areas and some Himalayan regions. Moderate rainfall is also expected across the Terai districts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpashchim provinces, as well as parts of Madhesh Province.

The department has also warned of heavy rainfall at one or two locations in the hilly districts of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces, increasing the risk of localized flooding and landslides.

Tonight, moderate rainfall with thunderstorms is expected across many hilly and Terai areas of Madhesh, Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, while parts of Karnali and Sudurpashchim are also likely to receive rain.

The DHM has cautioned that isolated heavy rainfall may continue overnight in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, posing risks of flash floods, landslides, urban inundation, and debris flow.

Residents living near rivers, landslide-prone hillsides, and flood-vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert and follow instructions issued by local authorities until weather conditions improve.
