Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project Temporarily Shut Down After Flood Risk Alert

The Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project has temporarily stopped electricity generation following a rise in water levels and muddy flood flow in the Lhende River. The shutdown was taken as a precautionary measure to protect the project infrastructure from potential flood damage.

According to Santosh Adhikari, chief of the Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Center, electricity production was halted from Sunday evening and will resume once the river condition returns to normal. The project had previously suffered major damage to its dam and other structures due to flooding in the Lhende River last year, prompting authorities to take additional safety measures.

Meanwhile, rising water levels in the Bhotekoshi River have increased risks around the Rasuwagadhi customs yard. Cargo vehicles and newly imported vehicles parked there have been moved to safer locations. Local authorities have advised residents and travelers to avoid areas near the Lhende River and Bhotekoshi River and to remain cautious during travel.

The administration has also requested vehicles traveling toward Kerung to use alternative routes due to risks along the Mailung road section. Authorities have urged the public to immediately report any emergency situation through the emergency helpline number 1234.
