Ridi Power Suspends Iwa Khola Hydropower Generation After Flood Damage

Ridi Power Company Limited has announced that electricity generation from its 9.9 MW Iwa Khola Hydropower Project in Panchthar has remained suspended since Asar 26 following severe infrastructure damage caused by floods and landslides.

According to the company, continuous rainfall triggered river erosion around the project's headrace pipeline, damaging anchor blocks, pipe supports, and other key civil structures.

The company said ongoing soil erosion beneath the pipeline created excessive pressure, resulting in pipe bursts and cracks at multiple locations.

Although repair work and testing were carried out in several phases, additional damage was discovered during trial operations. A detailed technical assessment concluded that simple repairs or welding would not be sufficient to restore the project safely, leading to the suspension of generation.

Ridi Power stated that detailed engineering studies and permanent rehabilitation work are currently in progress. The company will announce the project's restart date through an official notice once restoration is completed.
