RPP Faces Major Split as 183 Leaders and Cadres Quit Party

The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) is facing a significant internal crisis after 183 leaders and cadres, including central committee members, announced their collective resignation from the party.

The dissident faction cited dissatisfaction with party chairman Rajendra Lingden’s leadership style as the primary reason for their departure. Among those who quit are leaders aligned with General Secretary Dhawal Shamsher Rana’s faction, including Mukund Shyam Giri, Dilnath Giri, Keshav Raj Shrestha, and Narayan Prasad Koirala.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the group accused the current leadership of diverting the party from its core principles, objectives, and ideological foundation. They also alleged that efforts to establish accountability and internal democracy within the party were systematically suppressed.

The resigning members further claimed that dissenting voices within the party were subjected to disciplinary actions and political marginalization.

They also criticized the leadership for failing to effectively advance the pro-monarchy movement, alleging that the party has not registered any concrete proposal in Parliament in support of a constitutional monarchy, despite its public stance.

Political observers suggest that this mass resignation could significantly weaken the party’s organizational structure and influence, potentially reshaping its future political strategy in Nepal’s evolving political landscape.
