RPP Lawmaker Khushbu Oli Says She Received Death and Rape Threats Over Hindu State Remarks

Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chief Whip Khushbu Oli has alleged that she has received death and rape threats after publicly advocating for Nepal to be reinstated as a Sanatan Hindu state.

Speaking during Wednesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Oli said the threats were made through social media following her remarks in favor of restoring Nepal’s Hindu identity. She claimed that individuals opposing her views targeted her with abusive and threatening messages.

Oli argued that a significant majority of Nepal’s population follows Sanatan traditions and that raising the issue of Nepal’s religious identity is a legitimate matter of political debate within a democratic system. According to her, expressing such views should not result in personal threats or intimidation.

She further stated that while she is personally prepared to face such threats, the issue should be viewed as an attack on the wider Sanatani community rather than solely on her as an individual.

The lawmaker questioned whether religious tolerance and freedom of expression were being upheld when differing opinions on Nepal’s constitutional and religious framework lead to threats and harassment.

Her remarks have added to the ongoing national debate surrounding secularism, religious identity, and constitutional reforms in Nepal.
