Salt Trading Corporation has launched fair-price shops across Nepal targeting the Dashain, Tihar and Chhath festivals. The shops started operating from Ashoj 1 and will remain open until Chhath.

The corporation is providing essential daily-use goods at discounted prices through 13 locations in Kathmandu Valley and distribution centers in various parts of the country. The shops operate from 9 AM to 6 PM and remain open on Saturdays as well.

Sugar is available at Rs. 100 per kilogram, while salt is being sold at Rs. 24 per kilogram. Each household can purchase up to 6 kilograms of both sugar and salt under the current arrangement.

The corporation has also provided discounts of up to Rs. 7 on chiura, lentils, flour and cooking oil, while rice is available with discounts of up to Rs. 100. Other pulses, legumes and food products are also being offered at reduced prices. LPG gas is available at the government-fixed price.

According to the corporation, the fair-price shops aim to help consumers avoid excessive price increases, black marketing and other market-related problems during the festival season.

Consumers in Kathmandu Valley can purchase essential goods from distribution centers in Kalimati, Satungal, Jawalakhel, Koteshwor, Sifal, Kapan, Balaju, Bhaktapur, Kaushaltar, Kadaghari, Imadol, Maharajgunj and Jorpati, among other locations.
