Second National Economic Census Set to Begin from Baisakh 2 as Preparations Near Completion

National Statistics Office has announced that preparations for Nepal’s second national economic census are in their final phase, with enumerators and supervisors already deployed across the country.

According to the schedule, field-level data collection will begin nationwide from Baisakh 2 and is expected to be completed by the first week of Asar. Around 5,000 personnel have been mobilized for the census.

Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle has urged industries, businesses, and stakeholders to actively participate, emphasizing the importance of accurate data collection for the country’s economic planning.

The census will collect baseline data across 18 economic sectors, including industries, businesses, services, cooperatives, and both private and public institutions. It aims to gather detailed information on the number, type, investment, employment, production, and service delivery of these entities.

Data will be collected from both registered and unregistered businesses, including small enterprises, self-employed establishments, industries, NGOs, schools, hospitals, and other institutions.

Preparatory work for the census was completed by the end of Falgun, and a total of 84 offices have been established across the country to facilitate operations until the end of Asar.

The office has called on all stakeholders to provide accurate and complete information to ensure the success of this national campaign. The previous economic census conducted in 2018 recorded 923,356 establishments operating across Nepal.
