Shahi Urges Government to Use Parliament, Warns Against Ruling Through Ordinances

Gyanendra Bahadur Shahi, spokesperson and parliamentary party leader of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, has criticized the government for attempting to bypass Parliament by relying on ordinances.

Speaking at an event in Kathmandu on Sunday, Shahi emphasized that lawmaking is the responsibility of Parliament and warned against choosing ordinances as an alternative. He cautioned that such practices could lead to political consequences similar to those faced by previous governments.

He stated that Parliament is the primary platform for expressing the people’s voice, while the government’s role is to implement those decisions. According to him, a stronger government makes Parliament’s role even more crucial.

Shahi highlighted that long-standing issues such as squatter settlements, land reform laws, and land management should be addressed through parliamentary processes. He also pointed out a lack of coordination among federal, provincial, and local governments, leading to poor implementation of policies.

Referring to decisions like the “two-day public holiday,” he noted that even such policies have faced implementation challenges, with some local governments rejecting them.

Shahi further claimed that federalism has increased the country’s financial burden and said his party is open to reconsidering or even scrapping provincial structures if necessary.
