Kathmandu, July 22 — Nepal’s Social Security Fund (SSF) has disbursed interest payouts totaling NPR 2.84 billion for the fiscal year 2081/82 (2024/25) to contributors enrolled in its Old-Age Protection Scheme. The payout was distributed to 2,379,585 contributors, the fund confirmed via its information officer, Dr. Roshan Kojoo.
According to the fund’s interest structure, contributions made until Chaitra 4 (March 17, 2025) earned an annual interest of 5.5%, while those made from Chaitra 5 (March 18) to Asar-end (July 15) earned a 5% return. The fund had collected a total of NPR 86.86 billion in contributions as of this fiscal year.
A breakdown of SSF’s contributors shows the largest number come from the foreign employment sector—1.78 million individuals. Formal sector contributors number 603,426, while 720 contributors come from the informal sector and 422 from self-employment.
To date, the fund has paid out NPR 15.77 billion in claims across various social insurance schemes. These include coverage for medical treatment, health and maternity care, accidents and disability, dependent family support, and old-age protection.
Officials say the SSF is gradually expanding both its contributor base and benefits, aiming to create a more inclusive safety net for Nepal’s workforce.
