Supreme Court Overturns Government Decision to Block State Advertisements in Private Media
Nepal's Supreme Court has annulled the government's decision to restrict state advertisements to government-owned media only.

The Supreme Court of Nepal has struck down the government's decision to prohibit the placement of state advertisements in private media outlets. A joint bench of Justices Sharanga Subedi and Nripdhwoj Niraula ruled against the policy following a writ petition filed by advocate Ananta Raj Luintel on behalf of the Nepal Media Society.
The government had previously decided that official advertisements and public notices would be published only through state-owned media. The move drew widespread criticism from media organizations, which argued that it undermined press freedom, fair competition, and the financial sustainability of private media. With the court's verdict, private media outlets will once again be eligible to receive government advertisements on an equal basis.
