Sushila Karki’s ‘Mother’ Remark Sparks Debate on Social Media

Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki has become the center of attention on social media following a controversial interaction with a journalist during a Law Day event held at the National Assembly Hall in Kathmandu.

After the formal program concluded, journalists approached Karki for her reaction. During the interaction, one reporter addressed her by saying “Mother, greetings,” which appeared to upset the former chief justice.

Responding sharply, Karki asked, “Who called me mother?” When the journalist admitted that he had used the term, she replied, “Your mother has already changed,” a statement that quickly spread across social media platforms through viral video clips.

The incident has triggered mixed reactions online. Some users argued that public figures should be addressed respectfully and appropriately, while others criticized Karki’s response as unnecessarily harsh.

Although the exchange lasted only a few moments, it has now become a widely discussed topic in Nepal’s social and political circles.
