SY Panel’s Profit Barely Rises as EPS Falls 39%

SY Panel Nepal Limited has reported only a marginal increase in net profit in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2082/83, as higher revenue was largely offset by rising expenses and a sharp expansion in the company's share capital.

The company reported a net profit of Rs. 6.75 crore during the review period, up just 1.08% from Rs. 6.68 crore recorded in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year.

Revenue from operations increased 7.50% to Rs. 81.28 crore, compared with Rs. 75.61 crore a year earlier. Other income also increased significantly, rising 159.90% to Rs. 19.40 lakh from Rs. 7.47 lakh.

However, the growth in income did not translate into a similar increase in profitability. The company's administration expenses increased 23.33% to Rs. 5.35 crore, compared with Rs. 4.34 crore in the previous year. The faster rise in administrative costs contributed to the limited growth in the bottom line.

The company's balance sheet also underwent a major change during the period. Ordinary share capital increased 66.67% to Rs. 130.81 crore, from Rs. 78.49 crore a year earlier. Reserve and surplus also increased 30.34% to Rs. 15.41 crore from Rs. 11.83 crore.

The sharp increase in capital had a significant impact on per-share earnings. Despite net profit increasing slightly, EPS declined 39.35% to Rs. 5.16, from Rs. 8.51 a year earlier. The fall indicates that the company's modest profit growth was more than offset on a per-share basis by the expansion in its share capital.

SY Panel Nepal's investment also surged during the review period. Investment increased 917.65% to Rs. 43.25 crore, compared with Rs. 4.25 crore a year earlier. Meanwhile, property, plant and equipment declined 3.40% to Rs. 56.28 crore from Rs. 58.26 crore.

Trade receivables moved in the opposite direction, declining 32.27% to Rs. 16.10 crore from Rs. 23.77 crore a year earlier. The decline indicates a reduction in the amount outstanding from customers compared with the previous reporting period.

At the end of the fourth quarter, the company's net worth per share stood at Rs. 111.78, down 2.85% from Rs. 115.07 a year earlier.

SY Panel Nepal's shares were priced at Rs. 1,255 at the end of the review quarter, implying a P/E ratio of 243.16 times based on its reported earnings. The high valuation multiple stands out against the company's modest profit growth and declining EPS.

Overall, SY Panel Nepal's latest results show a widening gap between company-level profit growth and shareholder-level earnings. Revenue increased 7.50%, but net profit rose only 1.08%, while a 66.67% increase in share capital pushed EPS down by 39.35%. At the same time, investment surged more than ninefold, indicating a significant change in the company's capital deployment during the period.
