Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay has announced a decision to waive cooperative bank crop loans of up to ₹50,000 for small and marginal farmers. The move is expected to bring significant relief to thousands of farmers across the state.

In addition to the primary waiver, CM Vijay also announced a supplementary relief of up to ₹5,000 for larger farmers as part of the same policy decision taken on Monday.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the announcement was officially shared through the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The decision was made following a high-level review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister at the Secretariat.

The meeting was attended by Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister R. Vinoth, Cooperation Minister V. Gandhiraj, Finance Minister N. Mary Wilson, along with senior government officials.

The government estimates that around 14.22 lakh farmers will benefit from this loan waiver scheme. The total financial burden on the state government is projected to be approximately ₹2,044.46 crore.
