Uber Officially Launches in Nepal, Eyeing Growth in Digital Mobility and Tourism

Global ride-sharing company Uber has officially launched its services in Nepal, describing the country as an emerging digital market in South Asia and a fast-growing tourism destination.

According to Dominic Taylor, Uber’s Regional General Manager for Asia-Pacific, Nepal’s rapid digital transformation, expanding urban centers, and increasing number of tech-savvy consumers make it an attractive long-term market for the company.

With the launch, Uber has introduced ‘Uber Go’ and ‘Uber Comfort’ for four-wheel vehicles and ‘Uber Bike’ for two-wheel transportation services. Based on experiences in other markets, the company believes motorcycle ride-sharing could become one of the fastest-growing segments in Nepal.

Uber stated that the increasing use of smartphones, expansion of digital payment systems, and rising demand for convenient urban transportation played a major role in its decision to enter the Nepali market.

Tourism is also a key focus area for the company. Uber revealed that travelers from more than 85 countries arriving in Kathmandu over the past year searched for Uber services upon landing, indicating strong demand from international visitors already familiar with the platform.

The company claims that nearly 2,000 drivers had already registered on the platform before the official launch. Uber expects to create income-generating opportunities for thousands of drivers, vehicle owners, and fleet partners in the coming years.

Uber also stated that it is working closely with government agencies to complete all necessary registration and regulatory approval processes, which are expected to be finalized in the coming weeks and months.

The company believes its entry into Nepal will increase competition in the ride-sharing industry, improve service quality, and contribute to the growth of the country's digital transportation ecosystem while creating new economic opportunities.
