World Cup 2026: Winning Start for Mexico and South Korea
In the opening two matches of FIFA World Cup 2026, Mexico and South Korea secured victories. Mexico defeated South Africa 2–0, while South Korea beat the Czech Republic 2–1.

FIFA World Cup 2026 has officially begun, with two matches played by Friday morning (Nepali time).
In the opening match, Mexico secured a 2–0 victory over South Africa at the iconic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. Julian Quinones and Raul Jimenez scored one goal each to give Mexico a winning start.
In the second match, South Korea defeated the Czech Republic 2–1 at the Guadalajara Stadium in Mexico.
The first half ended goalless, but Czech Republic took the lead in the 59th minute through Ladislav Krejci. South Korea equalized in the 67th minute via In-Beom Hwang, before Oh Hyeon-Gyu scored the winning goal in the 80th minute.
The tournament, jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, will run until July 19. It features 48 national teams competing across 104 matches over 39 days.
