Jeevan Bikas Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (JBLB) is a Nepalese micro-finance institution (class D) established to provide financial services to underserved populations, especially in rural and semi-urban areas, with a focus on micro-credit, savings, and financial inclusion.JBLB was incorporated as a public limited company under the Companies Act; its microfinance licence was granted by the central bank and the institution began formal operations on 28 February 2019. The institution was promoted by Jeevan Bikas Samaj (a non-governmental organization), which had previously engaged in community-level microfinance activities. Over the years, JBLB has expanded its branch and client network significantly: as of recent data, it operates through around 160 branches spread across several provinces including a strong presence in Province 1 (Nepal’s eastern Terai/hill zones), Madhesh Province, and Bagmati Province. Through this network, the institution serves thousands of members, providing micro-loans, savings accounts, group lending, and other services tailored toward low-income households, small entrepreneurs, women, and rural populations. JBLB’s stated mission is to uplift the living standards of impoverished and marginalized communities by improving access to financial resources, enabling income-generating activities, and facilitating social and economic inclusion. Its vision is articulated as “Poverty-Free Nepal,” underlining the institution’s social objective beyond mere profit aiming to empower landless, marginalized, and backward people (especially women), and to support community development, health, sanitation, education, and livelihood projects alongside microfinance services. Since its listing on the Nepal Stock Exchange under ticker JBLB, the company offers publicly tradable shares (15,361,715 shares outstanding) with a face value of NPR 100 per share. As of the latest reporting, JBLB continues to make profits for instance, in fiscal year 2081/82 it posted a net profit of NPR 740.36 million. This suggests that despite the challenges of microfinance (rural lending, small clients, risk of default), JBLB has a strong operational scale and relatively stable financial performance.
