Peoples Hydropower Company Limited was originally established on 22 Ashwin 2064 B.S. (09 October 2007) under Nepal’s Company Act, with a mission to develop hydropower projects. Over the years it has grown into a publicly listed hydropower firm: it was converted into a public limited company on 15 Falgun 2075 B.S. and subsequently listed on the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on 13 December 2022 under ticker symbol “PHCL.” PHCL’s flagship project is the 54 MW run-of-river Super Dordi Hydropower Project Kha (SDHPK), located on the Dordi River in Lamjung district.This project represents a major investment toward boosting Nepal’s clean-energy generation capacity. According to the company’s mission statements and publicly shared project plans, PHCL envisions “optimizing Nepal’s hydro potential and offering long-term returns to investors,” positioning itself as both a contributor to national energy security and a growth vehicle for shareholders. Financially, PHCL is among the larger hydropower-sector companies listed on NEPSE. It has 32,000,000 shares outstanding, with a paid-up capital of NPR 3.2 billion (face value NPR 100). As of late 2025, its market capitalization stands in the billions of NPR, although its share price has shown significant volatility (52-week high ~ NPR 745.60, low ~ NPR 283.50) reflecting typical sector risks such as hydrology variability, seasonality, and power evacuation constraints. Because PHCL operates a run-of-river plant, its performance depends heavily on water flow, rainfall, and seasonal hydrological conditions making hydrology risk and generation variability key structural factors. Despite these risks, PHCL has attracted investor interest, due in part to its project scale, long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), and its ambition to expand further under future hydropower and infrastructure plans.
