Samling Power Company Limited is a Nepal-based independent power producer operating in the hydropower sector. The company was originally incorporated as a private company in April 2014 and was converted to a public company in June 2019.Its principal undertaking is the Mai Beni Hydropower Project (MBHPP) a run-of-river hydropower plant with an installed capacity of 9.51 MW, located on the Mai River in Ilam District (eastern Nepal). The plant started supplying electricity from 17 September 2021 (Ashwin 1, 2078 B.S.) and forms the core generation asset of SPC.SPC’s stated objective is broader than just a single plant the company aims to survey, develop, and operate small to medium hydropower projects across Nepal, exploiting run-of-river schemes and river-based hydrology to contribute to the national grid and support renewable energy growth.The public listing of SPC on the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) under the symbol “SPC” gives retail and institutional investors an opportunity to participate in Nepal’s hydropower sector. The company has 5,000,000 listed shares with a paid-up capital of NPR 500,000,000. As with many small-scale hydropower producers operating in Nepal’s mountainous terrain and variable monsoon climate, SPC faces inherent risks related to hydrology: river flow variation, potential for landslides or floods, and resulting disruptions to generation. Indeed, in October 2025, SPC publicly reported that its Mai Beni plant sustained “major damage” after landslides and floods; as a result, electricity generation has been completely suspended pending damage assessment and repairs.This highlights the vulnerability of run-of-river hydropower plants in Nepal’s geography but also underscores the significance of maintenance, risk management, and environmental planning in such ventures.
