Union Hydropower Limited

Union Hydropower Limited is a Nepal-based independent power producer, established originally as a private company in 2007 with the aim of developing hydropower resources across the country.Over time, the company converted into a public‐limited company on March 13, 2016, and subsequently got listed on the Nepal Stock Exchange under the symbol “UNHPL.” UNHPL works primarily on run-of-river hydropower generation, with an emphasis on harnessing Nepal’s abundant river resources to produce clean, renewable energy.Its first completed project is the Midim Khola Hydropower Project (3 MW) in Lamjung district, which began supplying electricity from 15 Magh 2074 B.S. (≈ early 2018 AD). Beyond that, the company has proposed or is developing larger projects such as the Upper Tamor A Hydropower Project (60 MW, in Taplejung) and the Hongu Khola Hydropower Project in Solukhumbu district. With a paid-up capital of NPR 750,000,000 and 7.5 million shares outstanding, UNHPL is among the publicly traded hydropower firms in Nepal. Its listing on the stock exchange allows public investors to participate in Nepal’s hydropower sector, while the company aims to gradually expand capacity, take advantage of Nepal’s river-based hydrology, and contribute to the national grid via long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs). As with many small and medium hydropower developers, the success of UNHPL depends not only on building and operating its plants but also on stable water flow (hydrology), effective project management, timely execution, and prudent financial planning — especially as the company moves from small 3 MW projects toward larger scale generation.
