BYD’s Yangwang U9 Track Edition Sets World Record as Fastest EV at 472.41 km/h

Kathmandu, Aug 27 (Nepalytix) — Chinese automaker BYD’s premium sub-brand Yangwang has set a new global benchmark for electric vehicles, with its U9 Track Edition supercar achieving a top speed of 472.41 km/h in Germany.

The record was set on August 8 at the ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg track, with professional driver Marc Basseng behind the wheel. Basseng, who also held last year’s global EV speed record, said he was delighted to surpass his own achievement thanks to new technology integrated into the upgraded U9 model.

The Yangwang U9 Track Edition builds on the U9 already available in China, featuring BYD’s E4 platform and Disus-X core technical architecture. It incorporates the world’s first 1,200-volt ultra-high-voltage vehicle platform, paired with an advanced thermal management system designed to ensure stability even under extreme driving conditions.

The record further cements BYD’s position in the global EV race, showcasing China’s growing engineering dominance in high-performance electric vehicles.
