Fonepay Adds CityPAY Wallet, Expands Nepal’s QR Payment Ecosystem
Fonepay integrates CityPAY as its 10th wallet partner, extending QR access to 1.7M outlets and boosting Nepal’s cashless push.
Fonepay Payment Service Ltd., Nepal’s largest payment system operator, has expanded its interoperable QR ecosystem by integrating CityPAY Wallet as its 10th partner. The move allows CityPAY users to transact seamlessly across Fonepay’s network of more than 1.7 million merchant outlets nationwide.
The collaboration underscores the growing shift toward cashless payments in Nepal, with both companies highlighting the importance of partnerships in accelerating financial inclusion. Fonepay CEO Diwas Kumar and CityPAY CEO jointly emphasized that the integration empowers both individuals and businesses with secure, instant, and convenient digital transactions.
To mark the launch, CityPAY has rolled out a festive campaign running from September 2 to November 2, 2025, featuring lucky draws for Samsung televisions and reward points on transactions above NPR 500.
Industry observers note that Nepal’s payment sector is rapidly evolving through wallet–bank–merchant collaborations. By onboarding CityPAY, Fonepay strengthens its position at the center of Nepal’s digital payment infrastructure, bridging consumers, financial institutions, and merchants.
The development aligns with Nepal Rastra Bank’s broader goal of advancing a cashless economy, ensuring that interoperable QR solutions become the standard for retail transactions.
