Gen Z Protest Claims Reach NPR 23.22 Billion in Insurance
Total insurance claims for damages during the Gen Z protests have reached NPR 23.22 billion, with partial payments already disbursed.

Insurance claims related to the recent Gen Z protests in Nepal have reached a total of NPR 23.22 billion, according to the Insurance Board of Nepal. The claims cover physical and other damages reported across 14 general insurance companies and four micro-insurance providers.
As of Wednesday, 3,099 individual claims have been filed, with approximately NPR 1.29 billion already disbursed as advance payments. Surveyors have been deployed to assess damages, with 374 survey reports submitted so far. The government has also conducted preliminary damage assessments.
The protests, held on Bhadra 23 and 24, caused estimated losses of around NPR 180 billion nationwide, according to preliminary studies by public and private sector agencies. Among these, public assets alone accounted for roughly NPR 100 billion in damages, due in part to limited government insurance coverage. Private companies have largely insured their properties, helping mitigate losses.
Officials noted that widespread vandalism, arson, and looting contributed significantly to the scale of damage, and insurance payouts are expected to continue as assessments progress.
