Kathmandu Holds Mass Funeral for Gen Z Movement Victims

Kathmandu on Tuesday witnessed a solemn mass funeral procession for those who lost their lives during the Gen Z movement of September 8. The bodies, which had been kept at the mortuary of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), were brought out for cremation after several days of mourning.

While some families had already conducted individual funeral rites earlier, the collective ceremony was organized for the remaining victims. Lalitpur Metropolitan City coordinated logistics, including vehicles to transport the remains.

Within the Kathmandu Valley, the deceased were cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat, Nepal’s most significant cremation site. For families residing outside the Valley, special arrangements were made to airlift the bodies by helicopter, ensuring that the final rites could be carried out in their hometowns.

The event served as a national moment of collective grief, underlining the tragic human cost of the protests that reshaped Nepal’s political landscape.
