Mustang Customs Collects Nearly Rs. 5.7 Billion in Revenue

Mustang Customs Office has reported strong revenue growth, collecting Rs. 5.71 billion in the current fiscal year through Chaitra 7, as trade activity through the Nepal-China Korala border gains momentum.

According to Customs Chief Ramesh Khadka, goods worth Rs. 12.17 billion have been imported through the Korala checkpoint during the reporting period, while exports to China reached Rs. 203 million. The rising trade volume has contributed significantly to the surge in revenue collection.

A total of 2,347 electric vehicles have been cleared through the Korala border, reflecting growing import demand for EVs in Nepal. In addition, 1,804 cargo containers have undergone customs clearance, indicating active cross-border logistics operations.

The Korala checkpoint gained importance after landslides in Ashar and Shrawan disrupted the Rasuwagadhi and Tatopani border points, leading the government to use Mustang as an alternative trade route. Subsequently, the Department of Customs formally expanded and regularized operations at the Korala border.

Historically, Mustang Customs generated only around Rs. 10–15 million annually. However, since the full-scale operation of the Korala route, revenue collection has surged significantly, marking a structural shift in trade flows and border utilization
