Nepal Urges Bangladeshi Investors to Invest in Energy Sector
The Embassy of Nepal in Dhaka has urged Bangladeshi investors to channel capital into Nepal's energy, tourism, and infrastructure sectors, highlighting growing trade and investment ties between the two nations.

Kathmandu, Jan 30 — The Embassy of Nepal in Dhaka organized a workshop titled “Nepal-Bangladesh Trade and Investment Relations” to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation and attract Bangladeshi capital into Nepal’s key sectors, especially energy production.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Ghanshyam Bhandari highlighted the increasing economic engagement between Nepal and Bangladesh, including the first-ever export of 40 megawatts of electricity from Nepal to Bangladesh. He emphasized that energy cooperation between the two countries would not only benefit them directly but also contribute to energy security across South Asia.
Sushil Gyewali, CEO of the Investment Board of Nepal, presented Nepal’s investment priorities, including hydropower, tourism, agriculture, ICT, urban infrastructure, health, and mining. He invited Bangladeshi investors to explore these opportunities.
Dr. Khandokar Azizul Islam, Executive Member of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority, expressed Bangladesh’s commitment to work closely with Nepal to strengthen mutual investment relations in areas of shared interest.
Abdul Awal Mintoo, Chairman of National Bank Limited and former president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), emphasized the importance of policy-level collaboration and private sector partnership to deepen bilateral economic ties.
The event, hosted by the Nepali Embassy in Dhaka, is expected to lay the groundwork for greater energy trade, infrastructure development, and private investment collaboration between the two neighboring countries.
