NEPSE Ends Slightly Higher Amid Late-Session Correction; Turnover Exceeds NPR 21 Billion

Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) started the week on a cautious yet optimistic note, with the benchmark index posting a marginal gain of 0.32 points to close at 2,870.95. The intraday rally faded by the closing bell as late-session profit booking triggered a minor correction.

While the benchmark managed to stay in the green, the Sensitive Index declined by 2.46 points. The Float Index and the Sensitive Float Index also dropped by 0.44 and 1.05 points respectively, indicating pressure on blue-chip and free-float stocks.

Despite the subdued index movement, market turnover surged sharply. Total trading value reached NPR 21.46 billion, a notable jump from Thursday’s NPR 16.5 billion. A total of 51.6 million shares were exchanged across 178,176 transactions involving 316 listed stocks — underscoring robust market participation.

On the gainers' board, four stocks hit the upper circuit limit: Unnati Sahakarya Laghubitta, Sanvi Energy, Trade Tower, and Shiv Shree Hydropower. Bindhyabasini Hydropower also rallied nearly 10%. On the flip side, Samriddhi Finance faced the steepest fall, shedding 8.88%.

Nepal Reinsurance Company (NRIC) emerged as the most actively traded stock by value, with over NPR 985 million worth of shares changing hands. Butwal Power and Himalayan Reinsurance followed with turnover exceeding NPR 640 million and NPR 560 million respectively.

Out of 13 sectoral sub-indices, 5 closed higher while 8 ended in the red. The "Others" sub-index outperformed with a 3.36% gain. Hotels & Tourism, Life Insurance, and Non-Life Insurance also advanced more than 1%. Conversely, the Finance sub-index recorded the sharpest decline, dropping 2.26%.

The market reflects a healthy churn in leadership and liquidity, though volatility remains a key short-term theme.
