NEPSE Extends Losing Streak to Six Days, Sheds 170 Points Amid Political Uncertainty

Nepal’s stock market continued its downward trajectory on Monday, marking the sixth consecutive trading day of decline as investor sentiment remains strained by political instability and election uncertainty. The NEPSE Index slipped 3.02 points, settling at 2,606, extending the six-day cumulative loss to 170 points. On Mangsir 11, the benchmark had stood at 2,776.

Market breadth remained negative, with 147 stocks declining, 99 advancing, and 12 remaining unchanged, reflecting broad weakness across sectors. Despite the overall decline, the market experienced modest intraday volatility as investors weighed ongoing political risks.

Five sectoral indices ended higher, including Hydropower (+0.12%), Life Insurance (+0.50%), Manufacturing & Processing (+0.61%), Non-Life Insurance (+0.05%), and Trading (+0.41%).
However, major sectors saw declines, including:

  • Banking (-0.67%)

  • Development Banks (-0.11%)

  • Finance (-0.57%)

  • Hotels & Tourism (-0.23%)

  • Investment (-0.16%)

  • Microfinance (-0.29%)

  • Others (-0.21%)

Four stocks—Upper Syange Hydropower, Swastik Laghubitta, Jhapa Energy, and Srinagar Agritech—hit the positive circuit limit, gaining 10%.
Ingwa Hydropower rose 9.03%, while Pure Energy added 4.4%.

On the downside, Support Microfinance dropped 5.16%, Meunchyiam Hydropower fell 3.73%, and Guheswori Merchant Bank declined 3.68%.

In terms of turnover, the most actively traded stocks were Ngadi Group Power, Sagar Distillery, Radhi Hydropower, and Jhapa Energy, highlighting continued investor focus on hydropower and manufacturing plays.

Analysts note that sentiment may remain fragile until greater political clarity emerges.
