NEPSE Extends Market Closure Amid National Unrest, Trading to Resume Sunday if Situation Improves

Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) has extended the suspension of share trading for the remainder of the week, citing the ongoing national crisis.

The exchange halted trading on Tuesday (Sept. 10 / Bhadra 24) and has now declared Wednesday and Thursday as emergency holidays. This means trading will remain closed through the week and will only resume from Sunday if the situation stabilizes.

NEPSE’s move reflects heightened uncertainty in the country after days of unrest, which has disrupted government offices, financial institutions, and key economic activities. By shutting down trading, regulators are aiming to safeguard investors from extreme volatility and ensure orderly market functioning once the bourse reopens.

Market participants say the suspension, while disruptive, is necessary to prevent panic selling and protect investor sentiment. Analysts add that the reopening of NEPSE on Sunday will be closely watched for signs of stability, liquidity flow, and investor appetite after the pause.
