NEPSE Falls for Third Straight Session as Trading Volume Edges Higher

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) extended its losing streak to a third consecutive trading day on Thursday, reflecting continued selling pressure across most sectors. The benchmark index dropped 18.40 points to close at 2,487.17, while the Sensitive Index declined by 1.73 points, the Float Index by 1.16 points, and the Sensitive Float Index by 0.62 points.

Despite the overall market decline, total turnover improved slightly compared to the previous session. Investors traded over 7.64 million shares of 311 listed companies across 36,531 transactions, amounting to NPR 3.27 billion, up from NPR 3.10 billion on Wednesday.

In individual stock movements, Himalayan Power Partner Limited emerged as the day’s top gainer, rising 9.93%, followed by Kalika Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha, which gained over 5%. On the losing side, Samaj Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha plunged 10%, making it the worst performer of the day.

By transaction value, Muktinath Bikas Bank Limited (MNBBL) led the market with trades worth NPR 153 million, followed by Nepal Reinsurance Company Limited (NRIC) with NPR 130 million, and Shivam Cements Limited with over NPR 110 million in turnover.

Among the 13 sub-indices, only Banking and Mutual Fund sectors managed to close in positive territory, while the remaining 11 sectors saw declines. The Others sub-index suffered the steepest drop of 2.21%, while Development Bank, Finance, and Hydropower sectors each slipped by more than 1%.

Market analysts note that the persistent decline reflects investor caution amid profit booking and lack of new market-moving triggers. Despite the short-term correction, liquidity in the market remains relatively healthy, with turnover levels showing slight improvement.
