Nepal’s stock market surged on Sunday, with the NEPSE index climbing more than 2% amid strong buying interest, as nine stocks hit the upper circuit and turnover expanded sharply.

NEPSE Jumps Over 2% as Nine Stocks Hit Upper Circuit

Nepal’s equity market posted a strong advance at the start of the trading week, with the benchmark Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index rising more than 2%, supported by broad-based gains and a sharp increase in trading activity.

The NEPSE index climbed 57.55 points to close at 2,772.17, extending gains from the previous session. The sensitive index added 8.05 points, while the float index rose 3.92 points and the sensitive float index increased by 2.82 points, reflecting strength across both large-cap and free-float stocks.

Market turnover also expanded significantly. Total trading value rose to Rs 13.78 billion, up from Rs 9.07 billion in the previous session, with 30.9 million shares exchanged through 133,529 transactions across 331 listed stocks.

Nine companies traded at the upper circuit limit, including SY Panel Nepal, Shrinagar Agritech, Nepal Micro Insurance, Bandipur Cable Car, Himstar Energy, Mabilung Energy, Reliance Finance, Ankhu Khola Hydropower and Trishuli Hydropower. Shares of Crest Micro Life Insurance and Nepal Warehousing also gained close to 10%.

On the downside, Everest Bank Limited’s 10.50% debenture due 2085 recorded the steepest decline of the session, falling 5.8%.

By turnover, Ankhu Khola Hydropower led the market with shares worth Rs 435.9 million changing hands. It was followed by Green Ventures, which posted transactions exceeding Rs 395 million, and Shivam Cements, with turnover surpassing Rs 320 million.

All 13 sectoral indices closed higher. The hotel and tourism sub-index posted the strongest performance, rising 3.35%. Hydropower, investment, life insurance, and manufacturing and processing sectors each advanced by more than 2%, underlining broad investor participation across the market.
