NEPSE Posts Modest Gain Amid Late Correction; Turnover Surpasses NPR 21 Billion
Despite a minor uptick in the NEPSE index, late-session correction trimmed gains. Market turnover surged past NPR 21 billion, led by reinsurance and hydropower.

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) closed slightly higher on Sunday, kicking off the week with modest gains amid a late-session correction. The benchmark NEPSE index added just 0.32 points to settle at 2,870.95, marking a slowdown from the previous three bullish sessions.
While the headline index remained flat, sectoral indicators showed mixed signals. The Sensitive Index dropped 2.46 points, while the Float and Sensitive Float indices declined by 0.44 and 1.05 points respectively — suggesting weakness in large-cap and freely tradable shares.
In contrast to the muted index movement, overall market turnover surged significantly. Total daily turnover soared to NPR 21.46 billion, up from NPR 16.5 billion on the previous trading day. The session witnessed 178,176 transactions involving 316 listed stocks, with 51.6 million shares traded.
Among top performers, Unnati Sahakarya Laghubitta, Sanvi Energy, Trade Tower, and Shivashree Hydropower hit the positive circuit level. Bindhyabasini Hydropower also recorded a sharp price gain of nearly 10%. On the flip side, Samriddhi Finance suffered the steepest loss, falling 8.88%.
By trading volume, Nepal Reinsurance Company (NRIC) led the market with over NPR 985 million in share turnover. Butwal Power Company followed with more than NPR 640 million, and Himalayan Reinsurance crossed NPR 560 million.
Out of 13 sectoral indices, 5 closed in positive territory while 8 declined. The “Others” sub-index gained the most at 3.36%, followed by gains in Hotels & Tourism, Life Insurance, and Non-Life Insurance, each rising over 1%. The Finance sub-index recorded the largest decline, falling 2.26% on the day.
While the NEPSE index paused after its three-day rally, high liquidity and selective sector gains indicate that investor sentiment remains cautiously optimistic.
