NEPSE Rises Modestly After Three-Day Decline Despite Lower Turnover

Nepal’s benchmark equity index closed slightly higher on Tuesday, snapping a three-day losing streak, while market turnover edged lower compared with the previous session.

The benchmark index of the Nepal Stock Exchange gained 3.27 points to close at 2,584.49. The Sensitive Index rose by 1.57 points, while the Float Index and Sensitive Float Index advanced by 0.12 point and 0.31 point, respectively.

Despite the index gain, trading activity softened. Total turnover declined to Rs 3.42 billion from Rs 3.51 billion in the previous session. A total of 7.67 million shares were traded across 328 stocks through 92,746 transactions.

SY Panel Nepal led the gainers, surging 7.01%. Guras Laghubitta Financial Institution advanced by 6%, while Sayapatri Hydropower and Grameen Bikas Laghubitta also posted gains of around 6%. On the downside, Citizen Life Insurance recorded the steepest decline of the session, falling by 5.97%.

By turnover, SY Panel Nepal topped the market with shares worth Rs 309.8 million changing hands. Sagar Distillery followed with transactions exceeding Rs 85 million, while CDB Holdings posted turnover of more than Rs 70 million.

Sectoral performance was mixed. Of the 13 sector indices, seven closed higher while six ended lower. The “Others” sub-index led the gains, rising 1.28%, while advances in the remaining sectors were relatively modest. Development banks, investment, life insurance, mutual funds, non-life insurance, and trading sectors closed marginally lower.
