NRB to Exchange Crisp Notes for Dashain from Sept 14 to Sept 26

Kathmandu, Aug 31 (Nepalytix) — Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) announced that the public will be able to exchange new and crisp notes for the Dashain festival from Bhadra 29 to Ashoj 10 (Sept 14–26, 2025).

The central bank stated that individuals, institutions, and organizations can obtain crisp notes during banking hours at NRB’s provincial offices in Biratnagar, Janakpur, Birgunj, Pokhara, Siddharthanagar, Nepalgunj, and Dhangadhi. In addition, licensed Class A, B, and C banks and financial institutions across Nepal will also facilitate the exchange.

Dashain is Nepal’s biggest festival, traditionally marked by elders giving younger family members “Dakshina” in new banknotes. Each year, demand for crisp notes rises sharply, and NRB manages the supply through controlled distribution to avoid shortages.

The initiative ensures smoother festival-related transactions while maintaining the availability of notes in circulation.
