Remittance Inflows Surge to NPR 3.52 Trillion in Two Months

Nepal has seen a sharp rise in remittance inflows during the first two months of the fiscal year 2082/83, totaling NPR 3.52 trillion, a 33.1% increase compared to the same period last year. In contrast, remittance growth during the previous year’s first two months was 15.8%.

In Bhadr month alone, inflows amounted to NPR 1.7467 trillion, up from NPR 1.2799 trillion during the same month last year. Measured in U.S. dollars, remittance inflows increased 27.6% to USD 2.52 billion, compared to a 14.2% rise in the previous year.

During the review period, secondary income from remittances reached NPR 3.8488 trillion, up from NPR 2.8776 trillion last year. A total of 90,198 Nepalis obtained new labor approvals for foreign employment, while 45,884 renewed their labor permits. These figures show a significant rise from 76,485 new approvals and 40,583 renewals in the previous year.

The continued surge highlights the critical role of remittances in supporting Nepal’s domestic consumption and economic stability, with growing labor migration and dollar inflows strengthening the national economy.
