Siddhababa Tunnel Construction Progresses Inside, Lags Outside Amid Ongoing Landslide Threats

Nepal to Shift Old Aviation Fuel Depot from TIA to Guhyeshwari by 2084
Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has confirmed that it will relocate its 50-year-old aviation fuel depot from the premises of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) to a new 50-ropani site in Guhyeshwari. The move follows years of concerns over safety risks to the airport and surrounding communities.
The relocation is planned to be completed by Mangsir 2084 BS, with construction based on a Detailed Project Report (DPR) recently submitted by Pulchowk Engineering Campus.
NPR 6.54 Billion Project Led by Local Engineers
The new depot, estimated to cost NPR 6.54 billion, will be built with modern safety and automation features. The DPR was prepared entirely by Nepali engineers, avoiding past delays caused by foreign consultants.
According to NOC officials, past DPR efforts—like one done by a German consultant for Civil Aviation Authority via ADB funding—had cost over NPR 500 million but remained incomplete. In contrast, the latest DPR was completed for NPR 198 million and delivered on time.
Pulchowk Engineering Team Commended
Dr. Suraj Lamichhane, associate professor at Pulchowk Engineering Institute, said that the entire technical team worked diligently to finish the project on schedule. NOC officials stated that this collaboration showcases the capability of Nepali engineers and highlights the importance of investing in local expertise.
Airport Safety a Key Motivation
The current depot’s proximity to TIA’s taxiway has long raised international safety concerns, making the relocation a critical infrastructure upgrade. With the DPR in hand, tendering is expected to begin by Bhadra, and construction to commence soon after.
